ICECATS CAP REGULAR SEASON WITH DRAMATIC OT WIN
COLUMBUS, GA - Domenic Della Civita sent the Pee Dee IceCats into the playoffs on a high note, scoring the game-winning goal 1:26 into overtime for a 2-1 win over the Columbus River Dragons on Saturday night.
In regulation time, goaltending was the real story of the game as Pee Dee's Breandan Colgan (36 saves) and Columbus' Trevor Babin (30 saves) dueled it out, each allowing only one goal. Kirk Underwood gave the River Dragons a 1-0 lead but Drew Welsch scored a power play marker towards the end of the second period to knot the game up and force the eventual overtime.
It was there that Della Civita took a cross-ice pass from Welsch as he charged in from the left point and beat Babin to give the IceCats the victory and three of four points on the weekend. The goal was his seventh of the year and second in as many games. It also extended his personal point streak to three games (2-1-3).
Pee Dee will now head to Athens to play the Rock Lobsters in Game One of the Continental Division Semifinal series on Friday night at 7:05 pm. Game Two will be at Florence Center on Saturday at 7:15 pm. Tickets are on sale now through the Florence Center Box Office and online at TicketMaster.com - don't forget to wear white as it will be White Out Night for Game Two!
